I've seen dresses made from trash bags on Project Runway. A girl from my class wore a dress made of Duct tape to our senior prom. And Lady Gaga caused a scandal when she wore a dress made from cuts of meat. But today, I found something online that I've never seen before: an evening gown made entirely out of DIAPERS! It's a very inspirational idea: maybe with a lot of Huggies coupons and a lot of patience, I could make my own funny formalwear! It also makes me wonder what kinds of things I have lying around the house that are just waiting to be turned into couture.
This dress was made by a Hawaiian artist named Heather Briskin, who is modelling the dress in the photo. Those are her triplets in the picture, too -- super adorable, right? Briskin's challenge when she made the gown was to construct a garment using only two materials, so she chose diapers and diaper pins. That's it! There's not a stich in the whole thing, which is amazing. You can see how many diapers it took to make that amazing skirt. There must be hundreds of them (I hope she used some Huggies coupons to save money on the project)! I really can't imagine how long it took to construct something that looks so elegant out of baby diapers. How did the mother of triplets find the time? I am SO impressed with this woman it's ridiculous. If she can do a project that fabulous with diapers (of all things!) I can definitely learn to hem my jeans :)
