Christmas is a time for humans to celerate family, play in the snow, and enjoy special treats. Last December, the keepers at the San Diego Zoo decided to let the zoo's animal inhabitants join in on the fun, which delighted zoo critters and visitors alike. From the exchange of presents to a safari snow day, this Christmas celebration was definitely wild. This Christmas, you don't need an invitation to attend the wildest Christmas party around -- you just need a San Diego Zoo coupon!
Park visitors got to help make Christmas merry for the zoo's meerkats by decorating paper lunchbags, which zookeepers filled with treats. The meerkats actually jumped with joy when their keepers gave them the bags full of treats.
The elephants received tacos made of hay and food pellets for their Christmas feast, but the elephants also got a cool surprise when their keepers gave them a snow day! More than 80,000 pounds of ice were used to create mini-mountains of snow that were placed in the elephant enclosure. The elephants seemed to love playing in the snow -- they even had a snowball fight!
The zoo's Masai giraffe family celebrated baby's first Christmas this year. This 6-foot-tall 150-pound baby met the public for the first time a few weeks before Christmas, and he seemed to enjoy all the attention he received from the crowd. Keepers say he hopped, bobbed, and ran on his long legs before getting tired and taking a break for a nap.
The zoo's lions received treats in painted boxes, and the zoo stayed open for extended hours to let everyone in on the fun.
If you're looking for a fun way to take a walk on the wild side this holiday, the San Diego Zoo is definitely the place to be! And with these San Diego Zoo coupons, you'll have plenty of money left over to buy presents for everyone on your list.
Even though it's not Christmas, visiting zoos is better than visiting malls or parks. At least, in Zoos, our children can learn and have fun at the same time.
