A burning desire to smell strong prompted a visit from the Fire Service at one boy’s high school in Australia last week. Three fire trucks were called out to the boarding school’s dorm at around 9:15 in the morning when excessive aerosol deodorant spray set off the fire alarm!!! (those boys might consider switching to Mitchum coupons to avoid further run-ins with authorities.)
Station officer Colin Russell said that this is not the first time over-use of deodorant has caused a stink at the school. He said his officers have been called to the school for the same reason several times in the past few years – anytime time deodorant particles become very thick in the air, the smoke detectors are fooled into recognizing smoke.
"They [the boys] get carried away with the deodorant ... I imagine it would get quite whiffy in there at times," said Russell. A Fire Service area manager sais that the problem is actually not isolated and occurs at boarding schools and hostels across the region.
Each business receives two free visits from the fire service each year – call them free passes – but subsequent visits cost as much as $1,000.
"We would rather work with the building owners to reduce false alarm callouts," explained Juliam Tohiariki. The Fire Service is working with building and alarm contractors to prevent unnecessary false alarms and are encouraging that building managers educate tenants about activities that can trigger alarms.
"We want the appliances to be available to respond to emergency calls rather than the resource being tied up at false alarms," said Tohiariki. The schoolmaster at the school said the incident was an accident and will notbecome a major problem, but she might consider distributing Mitchum coupons to her pupils as an alternative to aerosols.
Lol...cool post! And here is another tip boys, don't try too hard! Girls are turned off by that!
